My Story

I spent most of my 30’s and early 40’s in full flight Superwoman. It probably started long before that.  My mum was a brilliant Superwoman – I literally learned from the best.

The push-through, masculine energy worked well for me. My career was doing well and in my personal life I was bearing the financial, mental and physical load to keep our lives running.  My home was always immaculate, I got to the gym at least 3 times a week, I very rarely said “no” to anyone or anything.  I became a first class bitch when I was overtired and exhausted.

When I received anything less than glowing feedback I’d double down on my efforts to prove that I did belong and was up for the job.

Working 6 days a week in 5?  No problems.

Doing the job of 3 people?  I can definitely do that.

Having a difficult conversation with a female employee that no one else wants to do? I’ll chat to her.

It was totally unsustainable.  I knew I wanted, and was capable of more in my career, but the thought of more work and longer hours was unappealing.  I was working 12 hour days, 2 nights away from home and driving 10 hours most weeks.  I also didn’t have time to think about what “more” could actually be.

My first promotion came with increased responsibility, a sales target, a team and no salary increase (you read that right). It also came with moving from being an individual contributor to a team leader – with limited support on what it means to be a leader.  I created my own leadership style.

The Covid lockdowns were almost a relief.  Rather than using  extra time I did have at home to rest, I filled it with more – more learning, more domestic “goddessing”, and  more time at my desk.

The push-through energy was wearing off faster than before.  Bitch mode made me deeply dislike myself.  Physically I was starting to pay the price – but desperately trying to ignore it.

In late 2021 I joined a half day course focused on leading women.  I needed more tools to support my teams, and hoped this course would give me some ideas. When the coaching certification programme was offered at the end of the session  I signed up on the spot.  I was going to be the best coach, the best leader, the best wife (the second time around). This course was going to help me achieve that.  The reality was I learned more about myself during that certification than on any other course.

I started managing my time and energy more effectively.  I retired Superwoman.  I showed up more authentically at work and at home.  I thought about what was non-negotiable for me and started prioritising my needs.  A promotion to a Head of role a few months after I finished my certification felt well-deserved but turned out to be unfulfilling.

Why am I telling you this?  I believe as women we can have it all, but we don’t have to do it all.  More importantly, we can define what “having it all” means to us.  Having created my own leadership style and determined my career path,  I want  to help you do the same and support you as you do it.

As much as I thoroughly enjoy consulting, working with data, and leading teams;  coaching people to create fulfilling careers they love, without burning out is what I am most passionate about.

I spend more time resting and enjoying life than ever before – and I’d love that to be your reality too.  When I’m not working, I delight in reading, stand-up paddleboarding, yoga and spending time with my family and our dog.
